Finding a Specific Term of an Expansion
- figure out the term number you're trying to find (remember that any expansion (x + y)^n has n + 1 terms)
- find the values of n and k
- n = the power the binomial is raised to
- k = the term number you're trying to find - 1
- plug into the equation and solve
Example #1
- 3rd term of (x - 1)^4
Example #2
- coefficient of the x^10y^2 term in the expansion of (x + y)^12
Example #3
- middle term of (2x + 1)^8
